Here's your chance to play with money.
Materials: Enough coins of different denominations to cover an area of 8 in x 12 in, a paper clip, pencil and paper.
- Arrange the coins so that each coin is touching the sides of several other coins. Don't place any coins on top of another.
- Players take turns dropping the paper clip onto the coins and counting how much they "make." Drop the paper clip from 2 ft above the coins. Add up the value of the coins the paper clip touches. Write down the value of the coins that the paper clip touches. Each player gets three turns. Whoever gets the highest value wins.
- Is there a way to arrange the coins to earn more money? Let each player arrange the coins and drop the paper clip three times again. Did anyone earn more money than before?
